The ASTRA museum in the Dumbrava forest south of Sibiu is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe: some 300 buildings from every region of Romania, moved here and rebuilt faithfully. Mills, oil presses, smithies, shepherds’ huts, whole farmsteads.
A walk round takes two to three hours; the paths around the lake are flat and pushchair-friendly. On summer weekends craftspeople work in the workshops.
The museum is part of our day trip with Rășinari and Cisnădioara and works as a half day after the city walk.
- Over 300 buildings from all of Romania
- Water mills and windmills
- Ten kilometres of paths in the Dumbrava forest
- Craft demonstrations at weekends
