Mălâncrav is the village with the largest surviving Saxon community in Transylvania; around 120 Saxons still live here. The church on the hill has in its choir the most extensive Gothic wall paintings in the country, made around 1400 and never painted over.
The Apafi manor below in the village was restored by the Mihai Eminescu Trust; it takes overnight guests. The old orchards yield apple juice from local varieties.
Day trip together with Sighișoara and Biertan.
